“Chrome OS” Google’s own operating system

Google finally launched its own operating system. Chromium OS is an open-source project that aims to build an operating system that provides a fast, simple, and more secure computing experience for people who spend most of their time on the web. Here you can review the project’s design docs, obtain the source code, and contribute. Read more to know what is in google’s mind.

The Chrome OS is Linux based Operating System that is based on cloud computing. It totally is on the clouds, i.e. everything happens on the Internet. They call it an extension of their chrome browser.

Google has not launched any version of chrome to be used on Microsoft Windows and i guess they never will support any of Microsoft Windows’ applications ever. So the Chromium is based on Linux OS and the instruction that were given on the chromium site tells us how to install the machine on a Ubuntu system. (click here to know about Ubuntu).

Here are the instruction on how to use Chrome OS on Ubuntu.

It’s a bit techie so in the next post we will be talking about how to use chrome on windows.

So what is chrome meant for-

Google tells us that most of the users use 90% of their computer to access internet so why not make computer to have just the internet and free users from all hassle of booting the system, worrying about the security, updating the software and all hassles. So they made the system online, you can not use chrome OS without an internet connection.

The User Interface of Chromium OS is very simple and looks like the browser itself, i actually didn’t have had much time to discover what all can the OS do but as reports say it is simple, easy , and boots very fast (7 seconds as speculations). To log in into chrome you use your google account user name and password.

But it is full of bugs and needs a lot of work to be done on it.

Google says it is free for now and is asking developers to use and develop the code for it. But we have heard they might commercialize the software. But we all know Google is not the greedy one like Microsoft and hope it would do great with the OS.
